Is it normal for a deep cavity filling to escalate in pain before getting better!

Question: Is it normal for a deep cavity filling to escalate in pain before getting better?
I recently went to the dentist to get some work done and it was determined that I needed a Deep Cavity filling rather then a root canal. My issue right now is the pain! there was none first day after the procedure (a little but not too much) the second day (yesterday) it was hurting substantially worse (but tolerable) and now today the pain is on the verge of making me pull my hair out (I hate pain though so this pain may be nothing to someone else :( )

I just wanted to know if this was normal and when should I notice the pain subsiding?

I am on pain pills and antibiotics (I had a current infection that needed to be treated) so some of the pain could be coming from that infection as well but not really sure, trying to keep my mind off it.

Thank you

No it is not normal. Seems to me, that the nerve is telling you that there is a problem!
You need a root canal or an extraction.
If you wait until it gets better, the nerve will be dead, and it will feel better until the tooth starts to abscess. Then you will need a root canal or an extraction.
Save yourself some headache and get it treated sooner than later.
