what is the difference between a dental filling and a dental sealant?!

Question: What is the difference between a dental filling and a dental sealant?
1. is it possible to paint some dental sealant on top of a dental filling to make the filling lasts longer?

2. i just found out that one of my molar teeth just form a tiny hole between the size of O and o. can a dentist just use dental sealant on top of it to cover it?

thanks.

Answers:

dental fillings fill in holes which were created to bur out cavities..

dental sealants seal developmental grooves.. natural lines or crevices on teeth surfaces.. these prevent cavities from forming..

you can put a sealant on a filling to make it last longer or to hide it.. but most good fillings don't need to be sealed..

does the hole have a cavity? if it has a cavity then the cavity has to be removed.. and filling is used..
if there is no cavity then it can be sealed to prevent one from forming..
