Advice on tooth extraction?!

Question: Advice on tooth extraction?
I am not looking for any sympathy, just straight forward and accurate answers. I had a tooth extracted, and I am still experiencing pain and discomfort 4 days after. The tooth i had extracted is one of the upper front teeth, if that helps. Is it normal to still be experiencing pain after this amount of time? Also I have a little lump on the outside of my gum (where the tooth used to be), someone told me its infected? Is this true? The lump is very hard when i touch it, its not like a pot or anything like that more like bone. BTW the pain is nothing two anadin extra tablets can't take away. Please tell me is this normal?

Sounds like you may have an infection, if the tooth was a difficult one to extract then it could just still be very tender and swollen, but if it was straight forward it's possible you have an abcess forming sometimes you can see them on the gum surface and sometimes they are at the root, it would be a good idea to give your dentist a ring and explain whats going on they can prescribe an Anti-Biotic.

Its normal! Just give it a few more days and it should go away. If not, take a quick visit to your dentist.

Atleast you don't have to get two pulled out lol

well i can understand.

a normal tooth extraction can cause postoperative pain which can exist usually for 3 days.
sometimes it can extend a little more 5-7 days.

you have swelling which is tough is character.
it can be due to inflammation or infection.
(if the swelling is due to inflammation alone normal healing will occur within a week.)

either one of the below will be the reason for your prolonged postoperative pain

1.either you would have traumatic extraction or sharp bones present around the extracted socket or
2.the tooth may be infected or
3.you are not taking post operative antibiotics and analgesics properly as prescribed.

all the above things will DELAY HEALING and cause post operative pain longer than usual.

well we will see the solutions for this

for the first two reasons ,you cant do anything by yourself, go and see your dentist

1.if the delayed healing is due to sharp bones around the socket, your dentist can trim the sharp bones using appropriate instruments and provide sutures if needed.

2.when the tooth is infected (pus can be evident which will be usually white in color) the dentist can clean the socket with supportive medications(antibiotics and analgesics)

3.if you didnt take medications properly as prescribed ,then you have to take them

get treated and get well soon.
