problem with retainers?!

Question: Problem with retainers?
I had braces for two years, from the age of 11 to 13 and i've now been wearing retainers for nearly 2 years, i started off wearing them 24/7 and then after 2 months my orthodontist told me i could stop wearing them all the time and just wear them every night which i did until 6 months ago when she told me to start wearing them every other night which i did. every other night i would put them in and have no discomfort what so ever but then a few nights ago i put my retainers in, following the same routine as always i had worn them one night, missed a night and was now putting them back in and they we really uncomfortable and since then i havent been able to get it to sit properly in my mouth!
what's happened and what can i do?

Your teeth are shifting, let your orthodontist know. You may need to have an adjustment.

You need to wear retainers for your whole life. Your teeth want to move back to its original crooked position. Ask your orthodontist what to do.

Go make an appointment to see orthodontist and tell them what is going on.

I used to be a dental assistant for my dad until he died.
