I dont want braces , can I just get retainers?!

Question: I dont want braces , can I just get retainers?
I have a slight underbite with straight teeth and I dont want to suffer getting braces for whatever years Because im already almost entering my senior year of highschool. But I also dont want it to get worse , would the ortho allow me to just get retrainers to at least keep the teeth in place as they are now? And would insurance companies approve that? how much are just retainers? thank you! <3

Answers:

Retainers are used after braces to keep the teeth in place. You have to get braces before getting retainers. Retainers don't change the position of the teeth, or correct an under bite. Right now, a retainer would be of no use, and it would not be effective. Getting braces is extremely worth it, because the end result is really what matters. All things great in life are worth the wait. To get a great smile, and beautiful teeth, you only have to pay a small price. And once your braces are off, you will be thankful that you got them! After a couple of weeks, you will grow to accept your self in braces. You can get clear braces, or a color that isn't too noticeable. Invisalign is like braces, but a clear device that looks like a retainer. Invisalign doesn't offer as good of results as braces, because they aren't constantly on your teeth. For example...with Invisalign, you have to take it out while brushing your teeth and eating, which slows down the process. Trust me, I have braces, and they are worth it! Plus, you will most likely have them for only 1-3 years. A period of wearing braces for 1-3 years will offer you a lifetime of beautiful teeth. Braces also aren't very uncomfortable. It takes 1-3 weeks for your mouth to adjust to braces, and then it will feel like you don't even have them. All in all...braces are the best choice for beautiful teeth...for life! The sooner you get them, the sooner you will have them off.

See if you're a candidate for Invisilign. A co-worker of mine had them and you wouldn't know she had braces until it was lunch time and she told you she was going to "take her teeth out." =D

Probably not. braces are the best way to go. With Invisilign you don't wear them all the time. Retainers are for after braces.

I used to be a dental assistant.

Have you thought about those invsaline braces they have? Supposed to be just like braces but more so look like clear retainers.
