How to clean my clear retainer?!

Question: How to clean my clear retainer?
I have the invisible retainer and I brush it once or twice a day with just water. But after about 2 months it's starting to hold on to more gross plaque and stuff. So is there something safe to soak it in or anything?

Use a retainer cleaning solution-ask your Orthodontist about where to buy it.

This is another method you could try...

-Get your retainer.
-Use white vinegar a toothbrush and water.
-Fill a cup with white vinegar then let it sit for 2 to 5 minutes.
-Take the retainer out of the white vinegar and scrub gently with the toothbrush
-Then rinse it off with water.

You need to get a retainer cleaning product which is made for this purpose. Since you already have a buildup of plaque on your retainer, you need something strong. A product called SonicBrite does a good job at this. Regular denture tablets or Retainer Brite will not be able to get existing plaque off a retainer. You can find SonicBrite on the web at sites like http://www.dentakit.com.

By the way, you should not brush a clear retainer. It will create microscopic scratches that will harbor more bacteria and make the plaque even harder to get off. If you have been brushing your retainer and using only water, you have not been killing the bacteria on your retainer. You need to use something which regularly kills the bacteria, or it could make you sick after a period of time.

Stick it in some nice warm H2O
