Question: Can someone give me the "411" on braces?
Well i'm getting braces soon, so can someone give me tips on braces?
What are they going to do when they put them on?
How long will it take for me to get used to them?
How long will it take to put them on?
How many times do I have to brush a day with them on?
Does it matter if I floss?
What colors do I avoid?

What are they going to do when they put them on?
If they haven't already they will take x-rays of your mouth and take a mold of your teeth.
When I got mine on they had me sit in a chair, they stretch out your cheeks and use a spit sucker in your mouth, they make sure your teeth are dry and they put the glue and brackets on your teeth, the glue tastes HORRRRIBBBLLEEE, but well worth it, they will use this light over each bracket to make the glue dry, it does not hurt AT ALL the worst part is the taste, they will put a wire in and put the colored bands around each bracket and and then they put some flouride on your teeth.

How long will it take to put them on?
It doesn't take that long to put them on like an hour or so.

How many times do I have to brush a day with them on?
You are SUPPOSED to brush 3 times a day or after every meal, but I only brushed in the morning and at night.

Does it matter if I floss?
Yes, my ortho told me to floss and gave me this thing ( it was like a short peace of floss with a loop at the end) to thread the floss through to make it easier, I didn't really floss though (bad me)
What colors do I avoid?
Green!
I loved white BUT it changes colors! DO NOT EAT Cheetoes if you have white!! It will turn yellow :(
Also I found yellow made my teeth look yellow-er
I LOVED Blue it made my teeth look sooooo white.

Tips:
If you need them WEAR YOUR RUBBER BANDS, brush your teeth to prevent stains, do what your ortho says (i.e. rubber bands, head gear, retainer), try not to lose brackets because a.) the glue is nasty, b.) they get ticked around the 17th one you've lost lol, make sure you get between bracket plaque gets stuck there easily and a toothbrush doesn't really get in there.

1. They glue them to your teeth, no pain whatsoever, they use some sort of a blue light that does the work.

2. It will be uncomfortable and may hurt for the first couple of days, because your teeth will be moving around, but in a week or so you will probably forget you even have them on.

3. You get used to them suprisingly quickly, like I said a week at the most.

4. About 30-45 minutes.

5. Brushing is normal, twice a day is fine. But you have to brush in between the wires, so I wouldnt use an electrical toothbrush (the ends will go bad really quick, so it will be expensive to replace them).

6. Your orthodontist will probably tell you not to floss. Even is you do, you will find that the wire gets in the way.

7. NEVER get green (unless its in rainbow) or clear.
(Green looks like you have bits of seaweed/lettuce etc. still in your mouth)
(Clear stains very quickly)

Hope I helped, you'll be fine! :-)

I recently got braces:

The process of putting the braces on: They glue the brackets to your teeth, then put in the wire. then colors etc..
It took me about a week to get used to them.
It takes about 50 minutes to put them on.
At my orthodontist i have to brush 2-5 times a day.
Flossing would be difficult..
