Just as your experimentation has suggested, for most people the fundamental cause of bad breath is the whitish coating that covers the surface of the posterior portion of their tongue. More accurately, bad breath is caused by the bacteria that live in this coating. (The second most common fundamental cause of bad breath is bacteria that accumulate elsewhere in a person's mouth.)

A majority, not all, of bad breathe problems comes from food and debris embedded in all the nooks and crannies found on the surfaces of the tongue. This is the reason why dentists recommend tongue scrappers for patients with breathe problems.

Well yes and no. Plaque and bacteria stick to the tooth surfaces and cause smell and also the tongue harbour bacteria which smell.

Actually, it's technically what you eat. The breath odor comes from your stomach.

Definiely keep your tongue clean, but eat cleaner as well.
