Pain on left side of Jaw?!

Question: Pain on left side of Jaw?
A few days ago, I got up and went to yawn, and I was only able to open up my mouth about half an inch. Maybe an inch. The previous days, I have had the same problem, except it started to hurt. I've been taking tylenol when I get up in the morning because it hurts to even eat, then in the middle of the day, I'm able to open my jaw again, and it doesn't hurt (may be due to tylenol). It hurts again today and now its been about 5 days. What's wrong with my jaw? I've had braces since I was around 7-13, and now I have to wear a retainer, so I'm pretty sure my jaw is still aligned correctly. I'm 15 now, so is it possible that even with the retainer in, my jaw became misaligned? Is it that I may grind my teeth at night??

Answers:

It could be TMJD. See a dentist about it. Since I have it myself, I know there are a number of things that you should do (deep tissue massage, exercise, stress management, mouthguard) and some things that you should NEVER do under any circumstance (TMJ surgery, most antidepressant/antianxiety medication). The people that get it to clear up are the ones who get their stress management and health back in order while the ones looking for instant cures in the form of a pill or surgery are miserable for a long time.

Who knows though. You most likely don't even have it. A lot of people night grind and it is temporary for a lot of them too because it happens during stressful periods. In the short term, the best thing I can tell you to do is take ibuprofen (Advil) instead of Tylenol. Ibuprofen is much more helpful because it is acts as a muscle relaxant while Tylenol merely masks the pain.

U might have tmj u must immideatly consult ur dentist about this and if it keeps hurting apply some orajel in the inside it will numb it
