I agree with the above. I remember being obsessed with how smooth the front of my teeth felt, not just because the braces were gone, but also because they weren't crooked anymore. I ran my tongue over them excessively. Also, to suddenly not have to feel self-conscious about your teeth makes you smile much more often, and your smile will be different too, just as the shape of your face will be slightly different without the braces. As we generally get braces at times in our lives when our bodies are changing so much anyway, getting them removed can make a dramatic difference.
This is how I felt when I got my braces removed, at age 14. My teeth were very crooked but i only had to have them for a single year.
However, I was so vain about my beautiful new smile (at age 14, remember) that I don't think I wore my retainer more than a few hours in total. My mom never forced me or reminded me, and my teeth ALL went back in less than a year. That's my fault, obviously. And so every day I looked in the mirror I knew I had myself to blame for looking like an Appalachian meth addict.
The crookedness of my teeth led to further problems. Being pressed against each other in weird, misaligned ways, made some areas impossible to clean and led to tooth decay. Smoking and coffee, too. They look like sh*t frankly. On top of this from the age of 18 until now (age 29) I never had dental coverage and my teeth languished.
Suddenly, at age 29 I am able to get everything fixed. I need 20 root canals, with crowns, and bridgework in the front, because my two fronts need to come straight out, top and bottom. They will look amazing but they will cost me $20,000 cash, knocked down from $30,000 because i am paying cash. The moral of the story is,
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW SMILE, AND WEAR YOUR RETAINER, AT LEAST TO BED AT NIGHT, UNTIL YOUR DENTIST SAYS YOU CAN STOP, IF EVER. IT'S NOT WORTH IT TO HAVE ALL THAT TIME IN BRACES AMOUNT TO NOTHING!
The front of your teeth will feel very smooth/slick.
