abscess in gums after root canal, help me please?!

Question: Abscess in gums after root canal, help me please?
I had a root canal redone on Wednesday, which means now pretty much about 4 days ago. Redone meaning that when I was 15, I had a root canal and then only a temporary filling placed in it. It fell off after time and I was not taken back to put on the crown...which is why it pretty much got infected. It was okay for a while, and now I'm 17 (almost 18) so it's been a while.
I had the root canal and prescribed Amoxicillin (antibiotic). I began experiencing really bad pain on my gums. Of course I first thought that it was due to normal root canal post-pain. It was really terrible pain and I popped painkillers like there was no tomorrow. Worse, the painkillers didn't even help and I went to school feeling horrible. On Friday night, I noticed that there was a small bump on my gums. I did research and predicted that it was due to pus/blood and would need to be drained.
I went to the dentist again Saturday morning and I was correct. He made a small incision in my gums and drained the bump, while having me take two different antibiotic pills at his office and then also putting antibiotic powder on the incision itself. I am continuing on Amoxicillin. After the numbness from the shot went away, I realized that thankfully, the pain had gone away, but the bump hadn't. My smile is still lopsided. The bump seems to have become a bit smaller though.
I realize that I need to give antibiotics a couple of days to really kick into my infection but I'm surprised that the bump is still there.
Does this mean that it needs to be drained again? ): I can't go to the dentist tomorrow or anything because he's off Sunday and Monday.
Summarily, my question is this: Does this bump need to be drained again? Or do I just have to wait and it will go away? I was prescribed 800mg Ibuprofen but haven't taken any yet since the pain is not throbbing and terrible like before and my tooth is only sore and sensitive to eating food still.

Answers:

The bump is inflamed tissue which held the pus inside , taking the Ibuprofen will help the swelling do down and the bump should slowly go away. This will need drained again if it remains a hard bump or causes pain and a bad taste. If the bump begins to soften up then this will go away on its own. Keep taking your antibiotics until the course is finished.
