Drinking Pop With Braces?!

Question: Drinking Pop With Braces?
The orthodontist told me that if I drink pop with braces then it will cause a chemical reaction and underneath my braces will be ugly black spots that will not go away. Is this true because I used to have braces and drank pop like crazy but nothing happened?

if your dentist says so, you cannot disagree with him/her with people online.

your orthodontist tells you for the good and truth of it, since you paid him/her.

people online will most likely try to deceive you. You don't know who's who, so i would go with the dentist. If you don't really trust your dentist, do a research on it and read about it.

My orthodontist told me to not drink any fizzy or sugary drinks or eat a lot of sugar because the part of the teeth that are not covered with the brackets will go yellower than the parts that are under the brackets. I did eat a lot of sugary foods and I saw nothing noticable.
It's unlikely a chemical reaction will occur with the braces that causes black spots because the metal is not directly touching the teeth, there is a layer of dental cement that separates the two.
Thay being said, it's better to be safe than sorry and, hate to say it, but it's better not to drink fizzy drinks at all because it's bad for both your teeth and your health.

My son had braces a few years ago and he was never told he couldn't drink pop. He drank pop all the time and he doesn't have any black spots. The only thing we were told was to make sure he brushed his teeth really well to make sure all the food, and plaque was out or his theeth would be discolored. If your orthodontist told you it would cause black spots he must know what he is talking so I would do what he says. There must be some change in the braces since my son had his.

he was probably just trying to make you stay away from fizzy drink because, as a general rule, its not great for braces. but drinking it once in a while will be fine, as long as you clean your teeth soon afterwards and perhaps drink it with a straw, to minimise contact with teeth :) xx

It might be true for old types of braces that were made with a different metal, but most braces nowadays are fine to drink soda with.

i had a friend that had brace that drank pop and nun happen....unless youe orthodontist use so different type of metal...i would think not ...if you still unsure google it lol

idk ... just use a straw
