What to do about yellow teeth?!

Question: What to do about yellow teeth?
When I was little, I had pearly whites. After losing my baby teeth, I started growing yellow teeth. Why is that?I thought that this was just a phase and that I'll grow out of it with an electric toothbrush, flossing, and whitening toothpaste. I've noticed that my teeth have gotten whiter but it's still yellow.

I've tried using crest whitestrips. But my teeth became too sensitive and tingly and I had to remove it right away. And then I had to wait for 20 minutes just to loose sensitivity. Will I loose the sensitivity after using the strips a couple more times or will it be the same result as before?

Answers:

I almost recommended professional whitening until I read the rest of your question. You having sensitivity to the crest strips does not make you a good candidate for the professional whitening, it would be extremely painful. Each person is different and the color of your teeth is genetics. Not everyone that attempts whitening ends up with the same result. Each body reacts differently.

I would recommend avoiding things that stain your teeth, smoking, drinking dark colored drinks, coffee, tea, soda and continue using the things that don't cause you sensitivity such as the whitening toothpaste, brushing, flossing. I don't know when the last time you visited a dentist but a good cleaning and polish by a professional should help.

Try different whitening toothpastes, there's also whitening gum, maybe wait a while and try the strips but don't leave it on as long, maybe do it more often but less time.

Good luck, no matter what shade your teeth are if they're healthy, love your teeth!

Your adult teeth are naturally more yellowish than the teeth you had as a kit.

If you have really sensitive teeth, you're going to have a touch time with whitening because the peroxide in teeth whitening products is known to hurt for those who have sensitive teeth - I have sensitive teeth as well and can't use teeth whitening products.

Adult teeth are more yellow than pediatric teeth. As you get older, your teeth can continue to darken, stain and get yellow depending on your eating habits also.

Whitening sensitivity is normal, but only lasts for several hours. You can ask your dentist for fluoride trays to wear after whitening your teeth. This can alleviate some of the sensitivity.

Crest white strips do not work as well as in-office whitening or the take home whitening trays that your dentist will make for your.

Always remember that there are few things in your life that you can improve upon and your teeth and smile is one of them. Going through life being self conscious about your teeth is avoidable and treatable. So if you don't like them, you can change them via orthodontics, whitening, veneers, etc. Don't be afraid to discuss your options with your dentist.

Good luck. A brighter, whiter smile will help you with your self confidence, it has been statistically proven. Good luck!
