Why is this hurting so much?!

Question: Why is this hurting so much?
I have slight decay near the nerve on two of my bottom front teeth. It is hardly noticeable but is causing excruciating pain. I am due to go to the dentists and am worried about what they will do and worry that they won't do anything as it looks so insignificant. What do you think is the option they will go for?

Answers:

When you say it is insignificant, did you read a dental x-ray? The x-ray will give a definite idea about the extent of the decay to your dentist. If it is right on the nerve, and causing excruciating pain, it is an indication of a root canal.
They will advise a root canal if the damage is extensive. If it is not extensive, then they would put a sedative filling followed by a permanent filling.
Hope this helps.

You need to see the dentist cause the decay in your front teeth is causing more bacteria to get int there which cause the decay to increase and hit the nerve and cause you discomfort and pain in your front teeth you may need a root canal if its really bad but see your dentist right away you may not need a root canal but if you teeth are having a slight of decay you have a cavity and that is building up in your teeth see your dentist ASAP before it gets worse relax take deep breaths and good luck just Make sure you tell your dentist about how much pain you are in and that your are nervous and scared and that you would like to know what they could do to help you with this problem could luck and i hope you teeth get better soon

Hello...If you "actually" have decay that close to the tooth's nerve the dentist will decide if the tooth can be saved by doing one or both of two procedures...From your description it sounds like a need for a Root Canal...and depending on how that goes the dentist may suggest you have a crown put over the tooth or teeth as well. Good luck and I wish you well.

You might need a small filling or some kind of sealant or onlay, depending on the level of decay, to cover up the exposed nerve. If you leave this, you will obviously experience further pain, and the decay will eventually spread.

Hello

as you are in so much pain they will treat the tooth. They will give you an x ray to see how bad and deep the decay is and if your roots are infected . If the decay is just in the tooth, teeth, they will not need to give you a root canal. If it has spread to the roots and nerves, a root canal will be needed. A filling is pretty simple and will involve an injection to numb the area and they will then use a drill to remove all decay and clean the tooth, teeth up. They will then fill the tooth, teeth with a white coloured filling.

If you need a root canal this normally takes a couple of appointments. During the first appointment they will numb the area with an injection and then drill into the tooth and then use long files to file out and clean your root canals out and remove all infection and decay. They then put stuff into the tooth that kills any remaining infection and then seal the tooth up with a temp filling. After about 2 weeks you will then go back and have another x ray to check the tooth is ok and all infection has gone. They then remove the temp filling if everything is ok and then either put a permanent filling in or will shape the tooth down to a peg for a crown. If you need a crown you will have to go back a third time to have it fitted after about another 2 weeks. Most dentists have to send off to have crowns made and will take an impression of your prepared tooth and send it off to a special dental lab where they make the crown for you.

Most root canaled teeth need crowns as having a root canal makes the tooth weak over time and brittle. So a crown protects the tooth from breaking etc. Having a root canaled tooth prepared for a crown is normally easy and painless as root canaled teeth should have no feeling or pain as the nerves have been removed.

I have had 2 root canals done on 2 teeth and 2 crowns. The treatment does not hurt but it just takes quite abit of time. Do not worry about pain and the end result, whatever you have done will look great. My fillings and crowns look like real teeth and feel like real teeth. Well worth it all in the long run.

Hope it all goes ok and if you do need root canals, do not panic and think of the end results. Well worth the time and well worth saving your tooth .

Cheers

myself as I have had many fillings and 2 root canals with crowns.
