Is there ever a time when a dentist will put you to sleep?!

Question: Is there ever a time when a dentist will put you to sleep?
or can you be awake for pretty much all dental treatments?

Answers:

Hello
my friend was put to sleep when she needed loads of work done and she was really nervous and had in the past panicked and accidentally bitten the dentist. Dentists will not just put you under for basic things . Unless you suffer from very bad nerves. I am very nervous and have Valium for things such as root canals. But I am awake and aware of things, but the pills help me relax and calm down. Another time dentists may put you to sleep is for wisdom teeth removal as it can be a hard thing to do. So if you need extensive treatment or something that is very hard to do or you are a very very nervous person dentists may put you to sleep.

But I prefer waking sedation like Valium.

Hope that helps

the answer to your questions is yes they can sedate you and put you too sleep for oral surgery like jaw surgery wisdom teeth removal with a periodontist which is also a oral surgent you can also be put to sleep for procedures for aniexty and fear of the dentist which is called the Dental phobia ive been studying dentistry all my life and i know alot about dental fear procedures and things about dentistry so yes you can get put to sleep for comfort of the patient and to make them feel more comfortable than being awake but surgery you get put to sleep for too i hope this answers your question

As a rule their are only two times most Dentist choose to use total anesthesia (put you to sleep) and that is when the patient is so nervous they can't relax enough to provide a safe atmosphere for the dentist to work in. Or if they patient has a particularly difficult procedure to be done. Other than those two reason their is no reason to use put a patient to sleep for a dental procedure. Good luck and I wish you well.

For your wisdom teeth extraction, an oral surgeon may put you to sleep. If you are very phobic and want to be put to sleep for dental work, a dental anesthesiologist may be hired to work in your general dentist's office. Sometimes the use of anti-anxiolytics can help, nitrous gas and/or valium. This is called conscious sedation.

For surgeries, of course they do. But I don't think you'll ever be "put to sleep" at the actual dentist office.

As for one of the answers above, I have never been put to sleep for a root canal.

The only time I've been put to sleep by a dentist was when I had my wisdom teeth cut out, and I think he was a dental surgeon instead of a regular dentist.

Sedation is a method that makes you feel like your so relaxed you can sleep, but it didn't work on me

Root canal procedure

If there's nothing he can do for you, sometimes that's the only option. I have lost many of my pets like this.
