How long will I need braces for. (overbite) * preferably orthodontists or dentis!

Hey, I am not a dentist but i had the exact same problem and I had braces for about 2 and 1/2 years and my teeth are beautiful now. I still have a permanent retainer in my bottom teeth which I was upset about at first but now I am so thankful for it. (I'm 27). I also had to wear my top retainer every day all day for about a year after they came off and then I still wore it at night for about 3 more years. Good luck, its worth it!

From a Certified Dental Assistant who worked in an Orthodontic office.
You will be in braces for about 2 years. Then you will want to wear retainers until your wisdom teeth have been removed. At first you wear the retainers 24/7, then it will be evening only. Follow all the instructions of your Orthodontist so that you will get the best results. Make sure you go to an Orthodontist, because they are specialized. DO not go the retainer only method, you will need the full Upper and Lower bands, possibly a couple extractions depending on the crowding of your teeth, and then monthly visits to tighten and move the teeth. It can be painful, so take tylenol when you go to the Orthodontist for the adjustments, and eat soft foods for a few days.
You will have a million dollar smile once it is done.
