My 12 year old son has chipped one of his big front teeth he says hes in no pain!

Question: My 12 year old son has chipped one of his big front teeth he says hes in no pain taking him to the dentist?
tomorrow i'm worried that the tooth will get infected and i would not want him to loose it will the dentist just fill it.

Answers:

That is a lie cause my daughter who is 12 did the same thing and I took her to the dentist and he said that she had a very severe infection caused to the chip as the tooth would not ever re grow so take him to the dentist

You should take him along to the dentist to be on the safe side. If it is a chip without a knock or trauma then most probably it will be fine and the dentist can fill it with a tooth coloured filling which will be hardly visible.
If the chip is a result of a fall or trauma it is best to have the tooth xrayed and monitored as the root can die in the future and cuse some pain or infection.
Either way seeing the dentist will put your mind at ease.

I am a dentist

ok first the tooth should not get infected if your son is brushing his teeth as normal and using a mouth wash witch contain anti bacterial fluids the dentist should not pull it out what they may do is either put a faults peace in place to make it look whole again or crown the tooth or they may just file the tooth off depending how badly chipped it is

I did the same thing when I was twelve.
They capped my tooth. I've had trouble with my cap lately but it has been 4 years, so.. I expected them to have to fix it again. Talk to the dentist, don't let them remove it unless they have too. If he is in no pain, it should be okay.

Hope this helps.

this happened to my brother twice!
it wont hurt if it hasnt touched the nerve

they just put whats called a cap on the tooth but it shouldnt get infected. it looks just the same as a normal tooth and you wont notice a difference :)

It depends on the size if its small its an easy fix if its big you can fix that too

My son's dentist

it all depends on the extent of chipping.
since he doesnot have any pain, the tooth is ok and can be filled with a tooth coloured filling.
