Question: What to use to clean retainers, retainer brite?

My orthadontist just said to use hand soap and an old toothbrush but its noy very good.
I heard about retainer brite, does it get rid of the white stuff on the retainer? (I know it sounds gross)

If you already have white plaque buildup on your retainer, Retainer Brite will not take it off. Retainer Brite is good for everyday cleaning, but once you get plaque buildup, you need something stronger to break down the plaque. I would recommend SonicBrite. It is strong enough to clean dentures, yet it does not hurt retainers.

One word of warning, however. If your retainer contains metal solder, ANY product that you soak your retainer in will break down and crumble the solder. If you're not sure whether your retainer contains solder, ask your orthodontist.

Ask your dentist to throw it in an ultrasonic machine for 20 minutes where it soaks in a special fluid and vibrates the build-up off. Brushing it will not take off the build-up because the acrylic in retainers are porous.
