Hi, I am a 20 year old woman who had my braces lateish at 17. When I had them first put on my teeth were ultra sensitive to hot and cold so stick to things that are lukewarm for a few days. Before you have the wires put on take two paracetemol before you go, or one depending on dosage. Buy some seinsitve toothpaste as this can help with the sensitivty of your teeth after. My teeth hurt for a few days after, but after the intial teeth moving occurs it stops hurting. Obviously when you have them tightened it can hurt but no where near as much when you first have them on.
Another thing to consider is mouth ulcers. When i had my braces I got loads of mouth ulcers. If this happens i recommend gargling with salt water and using something like bonjela.
What you have to remember is that at the end of this you are going to have an even more beautiful smile, everything will be worth it i promise.

You Want To Know Whats Funny..WHen I was 12...just before halloween... i got my braces on...and i was sooo scared like i thought they were ganna shove the wire in my gums..but right after you get them on they dont hurt at all...your teeth start hurting after 30 min and it will only hurt for a few days....This "pain" happen evey time you have your braces tighten...Which is once a month or so...If the dentist say you going to have have a teeth ot two pulled out ...well dont worry about that either...you dont even fell it cause they num you gums:)....There is a positive side to this Pain...If you have to eat something for dinner you dont like or if it something to hard then say you cant eat it :D

Heey! I do not have braces but lots of my friends just got braces. They said that it does not hurt getting them on and directly after, but about 30 mns after it starts to feel tender and it sore.
