what should i do for my braces?!

Question: What should i do for my braces?
Ok so i got my braces on wednesday night. i Have a debate tournament on friday and i have a horrible lisp do you think it will be gone by then? and also since i have an overbite the doctor put in something behind my front incisors (teeth) so that when i bite down the substance hits my lower teeth. BUT THAT REALLY STINGSS like that substance when it touches my lower teeth it stings like crazy. Also lot of my teeth have become senssitive after my braces. And also how to apply the wax and will it somehow help me to reduce the soreness and swelling and somehow help reduce the lisp.?
thanks guys appreaciate it

Answers:

Applying wax WILL NOT bring down soreness or swelling. That you need Advil for. the wax is for if anything is like poking you, such as an exposed wire end. To apply the wax, you roll it into a ball and put it on whatever is sharp that is poking you, making it UN-sharp. Your teeth will remain sensitive for anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks (data collected from asking my friends when I got mine on). The sensitivity didn't stop for me until after a week, but for most it's 4 days. As for the lisp, my cousins got it, but I never did, so I can't help you there. I do know that it does eventually go away for most people, but for some it kinda stays until you get your braces off (sorry!). I have an overbite but I have never gotten the mysterious stinging substance.

Have had braces for almost 6 months

They only hurt for a few days after you first get them on. You should be used to them by then. Take some Advil and use your wax. The pain should lesson more as time goes on.

Been there done that.

I have braces too, and when you first get them on they hurt a lot. It just means your teeth are starting to rearrange. Also, for a few days after you can taste some of the chemicals the orthodontist used, but they eventually go away, so that sting when you touch your front teeth will probably wear off. As for the wax, it only helps if one of your braces is poking at the inside of your mouth, not to stop the pain in your gums. You just take a little of it in your fingers, rub it until it's soft, and mold it around the brace that is bothering you. It is also okay if you swallow it. To cut down on the swelling, put some ice in your mouth or hold ice to your mouth. You can also take motrin or advil or other pain killers to make them stop hurting. The lisp will probably go away once you get used to having your braces.
Hope this helps.
