How to stop my braces from rubbing my lip?!

Question: How to stop my braces from rubbing my lip?
I got braces about 3 days ago now and for a couple of days one part has been rubbing against my lower lip. An ulcer is forming and I can't find anything to help it. The dentist gave me some wax to put on but I'm not sure how much to put on (more importantly I can't get it to stay on!). If I put some cream on it will only help the ulcer but not stop the brace from rubbing. What do I do?

Answers:

Dental Orthodontic Lip Guard Covers may help you. They are sold in place of wax and it will stay on better than the wax.

Well honestly the wax they give you probobly is not very good. The wax I got from my dentist did not stick either. Go to CVS or a drugstore and get wax there in the dental section. I like GUM brand. And to put it on, roll a little piece up in a ball and stick it on your area that is causing the ulcer. But eventually the lower lip area will toughen up and it won't hurt. If the wax still does not stick, try blotting the braces dry first so wax will not slide off. Also you could try melting the wax in hot water, it makes it soft and it sticks much better.

have braces for 2 years and counting

Use the wax! Just put the wax on the braces the area that is rubbing so when it rubs it will be the wax rubbing. It don't fall off just smooch the wax between your fingers twirl your fingers then place the wax on.after some time your braces wont rub as much

The wax is rubbish it never stays on for me! So i bought gauze, it works so much better. Just cut a little bit off, fold it over and place it on your brace where its rubbing :)
