Can someone with braces chew any type of gum?!

Question: Can someone with braces chew any type of gum?
I got braces like about 3-4weeks ago, and i love chewing gum. My friend has had braces for about a year, and she chews gum (sugar free[she says its because without sugar it cant really stick to your brackets]). If the gum would break a bracket or something, then i rather not chew gum. But is there any possibility that i can SAFELY chew gum?

Answers:

Chew sugar free gum always. The reason it's good to chew it is Bc it's stimulates saliva flow... Saliva helps flush out the bacteria that causes tooth decay. Never chew gum w sugar... It is the easist way to get a cavity. And honestly there's not really a reason to chew gun w sugar Bc today there are so many good flavors of sugar free gum.

I'm a dental hygenist

YES! My ortho actually gave me gum when I got my braces on. Only sugar free gum is ok, though.
Chewing gum helps to stimulate blood flow to your gums which helps to reduce the pain you might feel from your braces. Sugar gum can decay your glue of your brackets. If you realized it gum can easily get stuck if you hide it in ur lips.

You can jew gum with braces. I had braces for more than a year. and always jew gum never had a problem. (: just stay away from hard candy

haha i chewed whatever gum and nothing broke lol but be careful because sometimes it gets in and its a pain in the butt to take them out. lol
