Does brushing with straight water work as well as toothpaste?!

Question: Does brushing with straight water work as well as toothpaste?
I recently found out that most toothpaste contains SLS. This has been causing severe ulcers in my mouth and I want to switch to an SLS free paste. Until then however, I will have to make do. Can I really brush with plain old water? Is it truly as effective as toothpaste. I know it is lacking the fluoride, and I don't care.

Answers:

It is like washing hands with just water- it will get stuff from the surface but it won't kill any germs/ bacteria and it won't really clean your teeth

No, it is not ANYWHERE near as effective as regular toothpaste.

Make sure you're flossing and using mouthwash in the mean time.

Nope, not for longterm use at all, sorry.
