Hello
sugar free gum is good as it makes you produce saliva that fights the acids and bacteria in your mouth and on your teeth. A tooth friendly diet is a diet that does not contain too much sugar or acidic foods and drinks. Things such as fizzy drinks and fruit juices can soften the enamel on your teeth and when you brush your teeth, you slowly brush away the enamel. Also fruit juices are high in sugar and stick to your teeth and cause tooth decay over time as they eat into the soft enamel. Avoid sweets like the plague and things that are sticky. Raisins and toffees and sucking hard candy is a big no no. The more often you eat sugary foods too also matters as your teeth are getting more exposure through out the day. You are better off eating any sugar with your main meals, not snacking on it in between meals. As your teeth then get a break and the acid levels in the mouth have time to return back to normal. Even diet fizzy drinks can weaken your tooth enamel for about 1 hour , so never brush shortly after drinking fizzy drinks.

Foods such as cheese( which you already know) is great for your teeth, milk, yogurt, apples, water melon, sprouts, nuts, fresh veggies, carrots, meat all help.

So brush 2 times a day and floss once a day and cut back on sugar and only eat it at meal times. Rinse mouth out after fizzy drinks and fruit juices as this washes away the acid from them. Do not brush straight after eating , leave at least 1 hour. And if you do want to eat something sugar, you are better eating it in one go, than nibbling all day on it as once it is eaten, the saliva in the mouth then gets the acid level in the mouth back to normal again. When you graze all day this cannot happen and is bad for your teeth. So leave several hours between eating so acid levels return to normal.

I think any type of cheese will be fine. And you may think fresh fruits are bad for your teeth due to the sugar in them, but most are good as they are watery. Apples and pears, peaches and melons . Acidic fruits you have to be careful with like oranges and lemons .

Hope that helps

Sugar Free Gum helps stimulate saliva flow which acts as a natural buffer and helps remineralize enamel.
