question about night guards?!

Question: Question about night guards?
if i wear a night guard for a long time, and i don't see any tear and wear on it, does that mean i don't have bruxism?

thanks.

Answers:

Not necessarily because some people grind very hard and some lightly. The purpose of a nightguard is to prevent wear and tear on your teeth and stress on the mouth muscles by allowing the teeth to slide freely. When teeth are interdigitated while bruxing, this can cause muscle fatigue and lead to jaw pain. Patients who grind hard will wear their appliances away but those who do not will usually not have any signs of wear on their nightguards.
