Kudos to Stephen for addressing the real concern! You make a hygienist's heart swell with pride.

You should be brushing twice a day every day, especially at night! Saliva production slows down while you're sleeping, so your mouth becomes a nice dry environment, which bacteria absolutely love. The food and plaque that accumulate throughout the day are left sitting on your teeth and under your gums... bacterial breeding frenzy! The longer plaque stays on the teeth, the more harm it causes. You may start to notice some bleeding when you brush. It doesn't hurt, but this is an indication that the bacteria is irritating your gums and leads to infection. This is what happens with gingivitis. Your immune system responds to this irritation and can break down healthy tissue while trying to fight the infection. If this cycle continues unchecked, it will eventually lead to bone loss, which is periodontal disease. Gingivitis is reversible; periodontitis is not. Once you lose bone, it doesn't come back.

So.. while you may be one of those lucky people that doesn't get cavities, you could still lose all your teeth to gum disease. Brush every morning and brush and floss every night. You only have to floss the ones you want to keep...

You can use a Waterpik water flosser in place of traditional string floss.

I think it depends. Some people's teeth are stronger than others. I like you am not as religious as I should be about this. Soda is really bad for your teeth, particularly cola (colored) soda. I am addicted to dr pepper and I have only had one very minor cavity. But in reality you should not really be concerned with cavities. By not brushing your teeth, you put yourself at risk for gum disease. This is when the plaque (food residue), doesn't get cleaned by brushing, gets hard and ends up pushing your gums away from your teeth. This can lead to the loss of teeth. I don't want to scare you, you're probably in no danger of losing any teeth yet, but you want to take a preventive approach to your teeth because once you get problems they can be very difficult or impossible to reverse. But you shouldn't get cavities unless you are eating a lot of soda, candy, snacks, sweets, etc. That's why kids get a lot of cavities. Even if you only do it once a day, you should still brush your teeth everyday. Also if you don't brush in the morning, listerine is good. Good luck!

It depends on your teeth. I brush my teeth a lot and I don't eat a lot of candy, yet I manage to always get cavities. My sister brushes her teeth rarely and eats a ton of candy, and she has had three cavities ever! So it just depends on your luck :/

Welll if you brush and floss then no
