Has anyone else been treated for TMJ?!

Question: Has anyone else been treated for TMJ?
I am currently being treated for TMJ, the jaw disorder. I have to wear this thing in my mouth and eat with it in for like 8 months and then once my jaw is aligned properly I have to get braces. Has anyone else gone through this process successfully?

Answers:

I have consistently treated TMJ disorders with great success and it sounds like you are being treated the way I would have done it. Be reminded that it is extremely important to wear your splint or orthotic 24/7 with no if's, and's, or but's. The splint does NOT align your jaw. It's main purpose is to maintain the proper jaw joint space (decompress the joint space) and keep the articular disk from dislocating. Once this has been done and is stable for 4-6 months and you are symptom free, then braces and/or appliances will be used to change your bite, teeth, and jaw position to maintain that stabilized mandibular position.
