Why did the shape of my teeth change after I wore braces?!

Question: Why did the shape of my teeth change after I wore braces?
My face, around the cheek and mouth area, as well as jaw used to be very round. But after I extracted 4 teeth, and about a year and a half months later with braces, everyone kept complimenting me. My mother even said my face shape is more prominent and defined, everyone agreed how beautiful my jaw and face were now aligned. Instead of having a round face, I now have a heartshaped face. My mouth got a little smaller as my front teeth and that entire row were pushed back..

Answers:

Why do edentulous (toothless) people have a sunken in mouth? For the same reason. The teeth, bone and tissue effect the contour of your occlusion (bite) as well as your facial profile. When you look at someone from the side, their jaw may even be in a newly aligned position, where at one point they have have had a severe over or underbite. Orthodontics help correct these conditions and as a result the entire face is effected.

Maybe your teeth are now sraight giving the illusion that your teeth changed shape.

Having teeth pulled and moved, will change your profile. That is why Orthodontists ask for complete Ortho records to study your entire face, not only your teeth. Some Orthodontists just look at the teeth and change the way people look forever.
