I had the same problem, it gave me a lisp in the beginning. You have to wear it for at least a couple months or your teeth will probably move around. But you get used to having a retainer in and your slurring will go away once you get used to having plastic in your mouth which should be really soon, my lisp was so bad my mom almost sent me to speech therapy, but it went away soon. But now I ply wear it to bed, but because I don't wear it and talk usually on the rare occasion that I wear it during the day my lisp comes back, but that's cause I stopped wearing all the time over a year ago ahaha. :)

if i were you just wear it you will get used to it
and if u dnt waer it your teath will shift
also when someone says something just ignore them if they make fun off you the retainer looks better than braces and you can take it off
