No. A crown is made to cover the whole tooth. You might be thinking of a filling which is first a paste that the dentist makes to fill in the cleaned out tooth. Then he shapes it to complement the rest of the tooth. The color will closely match the original color of the tooth. Then the past will harden and bind to you tooth. However, if you looking for something that would last you a bit longer than a filling which will last about 7 years, I’d recommend the crown which can last up to 15years. At least mine have.
There are some crowns that would have a better fit then the one you have. I had a porcelain crown and it did not irritate my gums at all.
