generally speaking, which is better?
i suppose that big groups tend to have more cash to buy good equipments, and they probably have the money hire better dentists, etc.

Private all the way! Usually the bigger chain dental offices have dentists coming and going. You rarely see the same dentist. Its always better to see the same doctor, they will remember personally what your teeth looked like. :)
