Will the dentist tell your parents if he's noticed some acid erosion?!

Question: Will the dentist tell your parents if he's noticed some acid erosion?
I'm currently in the midst of struggling with an eating disorder, and I've been purging quite a bit often. I'm trying to get help on my own. I've spoken to my therapist about this and everything. So I'm worried that if the dentist does find anything wrong with my teeth, that he'll tell my parents. I'm 16, so I don't know if I have any rights to withheld that information from my parents.

Answers:

If your parents care at all, they should know. They will be pissed at first, but you need as much support as possible. I commend you that you sought help, but how far along are you? Any progress? If no progress, you could quickly continue to do it. You may just be fooling yourself that you can handle this by yourself.

If you are serious about beating this, you need extra eyes to keep an eye on you so you won't revert. You and your parents should be at some of your therapy sessions, so your parents will be more understanding and at the same time help you progress forward.

If I have a child with your situation, I'd be pissed at her at first, but I would be going crazy trying trying to figure out what to do. I might do a lot of things that may keep her from getting better, but thinking I was helping. It would be better if I was guided as well.

I hope this might put things into perspective.

Not if you don't want him to tell them. A doctor is a doctor and a dentist is a type of doctor. He would be breaking patient confidentiality if he did.
