HELP?! when u call 911 and they take u to a hospital how much do they charge for!

Question: HELP?! when u call 911 and they take u to a hospital how much do they charge for the service?
my bf is by himself at his home and having an extremely serious toothache about to faint on the floor but he's not calling 911!!! because he says doesn't have any money to pay since he's an international student (they don't get health insurance). How much do you think it will cost if he calls 911?!? Please help????? Specially if you had to call 911 before.

if it matters - he's in NY, USA ( I cant help cus I'm currently in a different state!)

A ride in an ambulance will cost nearly a thousand dollars.

He should take a cab to the hospital or to a dentist.

A tooth ache...? Tell him to grow a pair and drink some whiskey. A hospital visit without insurance can cost hundreds or more likely thousands of dollars. Calling 911 and asking for an ambulance is like 3500 right there. Plus if he's a student he has the student health center. I think you're just overreacting and he just wants some pity from you.

i think its free, but im not sure.

Its cheaper to drive to the ER then be transported! An ambulance ride is like 700 dollars and it being NY its probably more! Although your not suppose to be refused treatment even if you don't have insurance, so you would get billed. Likely what they would do is prescribe a antibiotic because it sounds like it is infected and possibly give a pain medication such as lortab. He will have to see a dentist afterwards to fix it or it will keep coming back. Continue to brush twice a day to suppress the tooth from decaying from foods left in your mouth, especially at night. You will have to pay upfront for the prescriptions though, you can ask the pharmacy that you choose to drop the prescriptions off at if they have a special program for people without insurance. If he decides not to go to E.R. then have him take Aleve or the generic brand called Naproxen Sodium its usually cheaper and the same exact thing!
