GLORIA!

Please ignore all other answers. Here is what you (or he) should do:

Put about 1 oz of mouthwash in your mouth.

Floss your teeth with the mouth wash sloshing around in there so it gets on the floss and between the teeth. Its hard to do without making a mess.

You're done. Do this once a day or even once every two days and you will never have bad breath again.

Don't listen to the silliness about the tongue. What I just told you will work 100% of the time.

The main cause of bad breath is the accumulation of bacteria in the rear end of the tongue. As Wiki states: "This part of the tongue is relatively dry and poorly cleansed, and bacterial populations can thrive on remnants of food deposits, dead epithelial cells, and postnasal drip." Said bacteria break down these remnants, emanating the smell of volatile sulfur compounds.

The solution to this problem is surprisingly easy and quick. Mouthwash has certain ingredients that specifically combat bad breath, but thoroughly brushing your tongue helps a lot too. Carefully examine the back of the tongue, since cultures of bacteria are visible to the naked eye, and brush until everything looks clean. Examining and cleaning tonsils might be worth a try, too, if bad breath persists.

I'd say you should inform him about his condition, because even if you don't, someone else might do it eventually. Since you're his sister, I'm sure he'll understand!

My guess is he has periodontal disease and needs to have his teeth cleaned every 3 months by a hygienist.
The gum around each tooth gets swollen (gingivitis) and during that time plack gets in there and is impossable to clean off yourself so it turns to calculas (rock hard plack). This stretches your gum away from your tooth forming a pocket. Food gets in there @ home you are unable to brush or floss it clean. After time it stinks! and just gets worse. You can definitely smell it if you are standing next to them.
These pockets just get worse and eventually the teeth will start to fall out ( cause the gum is no longer attached to tooth ( starts by your teeth starting to look longer but really your gum has just pulled away from the tooth.
I highly recommend having his teeth cleaned every 3 months by a hygienist to avoid pockets getting deeper. If you catch it in time it can be reversible.

Please note a lot of dental plans say they will do your cleanings every 6 or 9 months however most plans will pay for scaling and root planing (scrape- ing) in between they just wont pay for exam polish and fluoride which is not required on the 3 month visit.

Nobody wants to have bad breath in private you should tell him. Do your research google "periodontal disease" let him have a look.
People who have bad breath dont know it,
Talk to your friends try and find a good hygienist to recommend to him.
good luck

Get Him To Try Oraltech Labs, It worked for me, although I will say it's not just do this and "bam your breath is cured" they make you change your entire mouth cleaning habits. So you end up doing it all their way. But in the end it becomes a daily habit. It covers Post Nasal Drip and Tonsil Stones as well thankfully. If you have bad breath you'll know it messes up your whole social life. And I suppose the best thing is they don't make you go out buying "special" products for the rest of your life. Just don't get it and then think you'll do what it says “now and then” because it's either all or nothing, and trust me getting rid of my room clearing faecal breath meant I was all in. Alex’s, J. The problem could be "deeper" than just his mouth. One of the possible reasons for such a constant bad breath is stomach/digestion problems. Regular consumption of dried appricots is said to be really effective in helping against internal bad odour.

What causes bad breath is germs. So, he has to brush his teeth 3 times a day, floss at least once a day, AND swish and gargle with a good mouth wash (because the germs could be coming from his throat).

He should brush his tongue too, bacteria on the back of the tongue can make your breath smell. Also look online if there is anything he can get from the doctor to help!

He can use hydrogen peroxide

I was watching Dr.Oz one day and he said that Green Tea will get rid of it and help prevent it.

Could be a mouth infection

Hi Gloria,

First of all, let me say that bad breath does not necessarily mean that person has poor oral hygiene. Despite brushing your teeth regularly, is he brushing and cleaning his tongue as well?

Yes, it is important to brush your tongue, but I know that people with a sensitive gag reflex can really hate having to do it. It’s also important to brush the roof of your mouth too. Tongue scraping (and brushing) alone won’t fix bad breath and/or if you have white tongue. It depends on the shape and texture of your tongue, diet and a bunch of other things. Also, you can hurt your tongue if you scrape it too hard. You have to clean your tongue correctly. You can check out more about tongue coating here http://www.therabreath.com/art_whitetong… and find out more about that yucky gunk on your tongue too.

For the back of your tongue, try using a mouthwash without alcohol in it, that should help too. Try any of Therabreath’s mouthwashes. None of them contain alcohol and they are safe enough to swallow.

There are several things that may cause bad breath. Dry mouth and gum disease are often linked to bad breath. This is because the volatile sulfur producing compounds in our mouth that cause bad breath thrive in a dry, anaerobic environment. When our mouths are full of healthy, oxygen-rich saliva, then it is harder for the bacteria to thrive and create bad breath.

Diet can also cause bad breath. Dairy foods, foods rich in sugar, a diet rich in meat products and alcohol can result in bad breath. If you are lactose intolerant, this might be the main cause of your bad breath.

Dairy foods are notorious for creating bad breath. People that are lactose intolerant end up with more dense proteins available as bad breath fuel for the bacteria than those who have no problem with dairy foods (milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, etc.) The end result is a buildup of amino acids, which are easily converted into volatile sulfur compounds by the anaerobic bacteria found within the surface of your tongue and throat.

To avoid bad breath, brush, floss and use an oral rinse without alcohol in it 2-3 times a day. Make sure you brush the roof of your mouth and your tongue as well. Eating crisp fruits and vegetables like apples and carrots can help too.

There’s an article titled “Bad Breath Remedies That Work” here: http://blog.therabreath.com/2010/08/bad-… It gives some more tips on how to avoid stinky breath.

I hope this helps!
