Question: If I wear a permanent retainer, will it affect my whistling?
I love to whistle. Any song that catches my fancy will eventually become a whistled tune. I do wear braces currently, but I'll have them off soon. If there's anyone out there who has a permanent retainer, would it impact my ability to whistle?

It depends on where it is located. Is the retainer covering the roof of your mouth? If so, then yes, it will most likely affect your awesome whistling.
I have fixed retainers on the back of my top and bottom teeth (in the front only) and I whistle like a pro.
