You generally have two options for a really bad cavity:
Remove the tooth - this is something that a lot of dentists frown upon, because it affects surrounding teeth
Root canal - this is the most common procedure on a really deep cavity.

You'd be surprised at how much dentists can salvage from even really bad teeth these days, so there is a very good chance you will be able to save the tooth. Though the sooner you act the better (this situation could have been avoided entirely by going to the dentist sooner, and it will get worse the longer you leave it- why put yourself through so much unnecessary pain?).

Dentists try and save teeth nowadays. The premise being they will have to do more work on it later.
