Food in Tooth Extraction Area?!

Question: Food in Tooth Extraction Area?
Ok Yesterday 10.1.11 i had two of my lower back teeth removed and i can see there is a little bit of food (i think) resting ontop of the area how should i go about removing this? i have a note of my dentist and i cant use salt water until 24 hours after the extraction, should i wait until 24 hours have passed or try and remove it with my tongue? thanks

Answers:

Wait the 24 hours as instructed. Then, use salt water in a plastic syringe to squirt the area directly until it is removed. If your dentist did not give you a plastic syringe, you can pick one up at any discount store (Walmart, Target, Kmart) or a drug store (Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid) they are sold near the medicine cups and pill dispensers. It is called a medicine syringe. Don't push your tongue over to that area, you don't want to disturb the healing process or cause dry socket which is extremely painful.

Past experience with tooth extractions

Try washing the area with salt and water like you said. You do not want food to be sitting there you can get an infection.
