Hello I believe I have an abscessed tooth?!

Question: Hello I believe I have an abscessed tooth?
Would you have a fever? I know my denist says my wisdom teeth are infected and is a gum infection. I am worried that my teeth could be abscessed and the infection could spread to my heart or brain. I amhaving sharp pain in my neck. I have been on Penicliin but im not sure it is working.

Has the dentist suggested on getting the tooth pulled? If he/she did, then it would be best to do it. Otherwise, you'll continue to worry about what you're worrying about right now.

yes a fever is a common sign of any infection that is active in the human body.
Usually a dentist will prescribe a combination of penicillin + Metronidazole over 3-5 days, the antibiotics should start kicking after the 2nd day and the symptoms should reduce..
Usually after this period, the source of the infection would have to be identified
eg; a broken tooth will have to be removed or a carious tooth will have to be root canal treated.

however, if its just an abscess of the gums.. an x-ray should be taken to reconfirm that it is not due to a dead tooth of any sort.
hope this helps..

Give the dentist a call, the pennicllin should kick in by the 2 days if not, better head to your dentist to make sure the infection is gone, if it is gone, head to family dr.
