water syringe for wisdom teeth?!

Question: Water syringe for wisdom teeth?
i had all 4 wisdom teeth removed one week ago. And i had a followup today, because i was still in a lot of pain. They told me i had food impacted in my holes, and sent me home with a water syringe. The doctor told me to clean the holes after i ate. But im not really sure how..am i supposed to put the tip IN the hole? or just squirt on top where my stitches are?..the doctor actually put the tip in the hole and a lot of gunk came out...so im wondering if i was supposed to do that? and if so....how?? i cant seem to find the spot he used to get in the extraction cavity..any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Yes, you should put the tip of the syringe in the hole and flush the area so that any food/debris is removed. Even better that using plain water is using warm saltwater (about 1 teaspoon salt per cup of water); this should help with the pain that you're feeling.
