Question: Does an appliance hurt in your mouth when they remove it?

I have had a palatal expander (appliance) in my mouth for the past 5 months, and also a bottom appliance along with that, and also a full set of braces too! This thursday, i am getting my top palatal expander (appliance) removed, and my friends have gotten that done and they said it hurts so much! and you will want to cry. I just want to know if that is true? this is what i have had in my mouth just so you can see!

I had the palate expander removed when I was younger, and it wasn't a pleasant feeling, but I wouldn't say that it was that bad. And I was 8 years old at the time. Also, think of how great it will feel to have it off and be able to chew gum and eat peanut butter and not get food stuck in it anymore! You'll be ok and you can tell your friends that it wasn't so bad after all. You'll see.

lol not when they remove it just when they turn it to expand it more...i had all that fun stuff....now my jaw cracks when i yawn

yeh, i had the same thing and it was worse than knawing my own leg off
