NHS Question: How do you get a 2nd opinion?!

Question: NHS Question: How do you get a 2nd opinion?
If you are under a consultant \ team at one hospital but are unhappy with the care, can you ask for a second opinion, to be referred to another hospital? Can you do this via your GP?

Yes you can ask for a new GP referrral (or your dentist can refer you if its a dental issue). There will be other consultants at the same hospital you may be able to see, so perhaps contact the hospital - maybe PALs at the hospital can help - just look on the hospital website.

PS: there are very few fake doctors about - but obviously the press creates sensationalist articles when it uncovers any of the few about.

You can do it by your GP or your hospital if you find some doctor/specialist on the net then ask your GP or hospital to write to the person you like the sound of but make sure he/she works for the NHS, but check with the GMC first to see if he/she in qualifed.

there are a lot of fake doctors nowadays

Yes of course you can. Just ask your GP however there may be a waiting list for the referral.
