Does anyone fear the dentist? Or am I a weirdo?!

Question: Does anyone fear the dentist? Or am I a weirdo?
Please share.....I went to a dentist today but became so tense when they said I needed a tooth extraction. Like four normal teeth, four wisdom tooth...

The dentist was nice (I think most of em are trained to be nice) but ohhh man I was so scared I gave her blank stares. She told me to relax and open my mouth I totally clamped up. I think she thought I was a lil strange. It's cuz I'm fearful of the dentist!

Nobody seems to understand! I'm scared of pain! I was like what the hell am I doing here..... Yea I'm one of those people who avoid dentists at all cause, I keep my teeth obsessively clean but I'm doing this cuz I need braces :(

I need some courage.....

No, you're not a weirdo, as I fear the dentist probably more than you do! Seriously, I've had a terrific amount of dental work done, and the thought of having to go, keep my mouth open and then go through the pain is excrutiating to say the least! For more info on my experience and what I think of the dental world, read this, you might get a kick out of it!

I can't really give you courage, but I can assure you, that you aren't the only one who's afraid of dentists.

Mine is really nice too, but I just can't help it, when he's about to give me local anesthetics, I just start crying, because I'm too afraid. It's always been like this, ever since I was a little child. My mother stopped going to the dentist with me, because she is really embarrassed of me being like that.

Don't worry it is perfectly normal for this and is a very common problem. If this is the case and u need teeth out then ask for some sort of sedation like iv sedation. I do this at mine and I where you are out and don't know what is happening and can't feel anything however can communicate. This is a great way for someone like u.
Let me know if I can help in anyway.

I am a dentist

I was in the same boat as you HATE going to the dentist, didnt go for 8 years ...finally had to go my wisdom teeth needed to be pulled....went and asked people i worked with for recommendations of dentist...found a dentist told him about my anxiety..and I have been going to him for the last 3 yrs plus i went and got braces today...all because of him telling me every time i went in to go to a ortho.

Now, I was terrified of the dentist, its normal everyone is scared of the dentist ( well not everyone but you know what I mean ) I had a tooth extraction today and I was so scared I almost vomited... But then when the dentist, I felt nothing at all, I actually asked 'Is that it?' I felt the injection and it only pinched a tiny bit ( try pinch yourself s lightly and ask yourself did it hurt and honestly that is exactly just how it feels like ) After a few minutes they pull your tooth out and all you feel is pressure, no pain, just pressure. At the end you will say 'all that worrying for nothing at all'
Hope that helped!
