Destiny, No it does not hurt. First of all the needle is less painful (not at all) than when you go to the doctor for an immunization. The reason is dentists use a topical anesthetic, it is basically a gel (sometimes flavored) which they rub on so you do not feel any pain from the needle. Secondly, while the procedure is happening and for a few hours afterwards you will not be able to feel any pain. The reason for this is the dentist will use a local anesthetic Novocain (Procaine) in your mouth. This blocks the sodium gated channels in your nerves from so you cannot send signals to your brain (therefore no pain). You may feel some pressure while the dentist is working but no pain. There is nothing to worry about dentists are trained professionals and you can always talk to them about your concerns. They might also prescribe pain killers such as tylonol 3, or they might tell you just to take an over the counter (OTC) pain medication and anti-inflammatory. I have included some sources below which will help you understand more about the procedure and drugs I have discussed below. All the best :)

I've had 2 teeth removed at different times and I was suppppppppppppppppppper scared. Don't worry it's a lot better than you think. When they give you the numbing needle it is HUGE but it doesn't really hurt. As soon as you feel the needle..the pain is gone and your whole mouth is numb after that. They'll prob numb your tongue too. As far as removing the teeth, you won't even really feel it. If they give you the gas then that's good. The whole time your there it'll feel like a dream, you may even laugh or sleep. If they aren't going to give you the gas then ask for it.

personal experience

The only part that hurts is the shot, but that's over quickly. Honestly, I've had worse pain stubbing my toe.

The actual extraction doesn't hurt, but it feels really weird. You feel pressure, of course, and if it's an upper tooth (at least in my case), I could hear it. It kind of sounded like a rusty door opening. But that's over pretty quick.

Depending on what exactly you have done, the doctor may suggest Tylenol, or he may proscribe something stronger. I had three done in one day, and they gave me Vicodin, which kills the pain, but also makes me hallucinate--I actually watched a TV program while the TV was off. I took one the afternoon it was done, one at night, and that was it--I didn't need anything after that.

BTW, there will be some bleeding afterwards, and it can make your mouth feel really bad, and cause monster bad breath. Buy some Tic-Tacs before you go.

It doesn't hurt at the time because you will be numb. The numbing needle stings a little but only for a second. There is a little pain after the extraction after the anesthetic wears off how much it hurts depends on which tooth it was, and whether or not there were any complications. If you are concerned with pain afterwards speak with your dentist before hand and he will either prescribe painkillers for you or recommend an OTC pain reliever that should help!

Good lck!

Ive been getting my teeth pulled since i was really young. and yah it does hurt :/ i usually just had the needle, but that part only feels like a pinch, but it doesnt stop the actual feeling of the tooth getting pulled out.
but if they give u laughing gas, then you wont be able to feel it (:

when they put the needle in, it feels like a pinch. when they pull the tooth out you cant feel anything. but your mouth would be numb for a few hours.

You just feel a small sting when they apply local anesthia afterwards when they pull it it does not hurt.

Not really if u have a good dentist. They numb it good all u really feel is the presure from the extraction. It is uncomfertable but not pain full

No. They put you on a drug right? Like some kind of gas. It'll hurt after they are done for a while but not while it's going on.

it hurts like hell!!!!!!!!! i got my teeth pulled out and it felt like a knife stabbing my teeth (jk only if its not numb it will feel like that)
