I want to refuse my dentist from taken any xrays of my mouth. I do realize that !

Question: I want to refuse my dentist from taken any xrays of my mouth. I do realize that xrays are very common and stan?
dard procedure. It is of course needed to find cavities and other problems that can not be detected otherwise. However if I know my tooth is in bad shape I have a bottom first molar that is incredible decayed and has broken off to the point of it only being half a molar. I would think the only option is to pull the remaining part of the tooth and do a root canal. So why would an xray do anything other than show the obvious? I really have an aversion to xrays for personal reasons. I mean if in doubt then assume the tooth is gone and pull it what will an xray really do that the obvious will tell? If somehow the tooth is savable but still pulled what's the big deal, I at least didn't have the xray and problem solved.

Its not just standard procedure its very important. I understand that you see an extraction as something that's very simple but its not always the case. Trust me dentists want to see whats going on below the gum line before they pull your tooth. Is it close to your sinus cavity? Where and how are your roots structured? Is it possible they might hit a nerve? Is it impacted? ..................Think of it as your car dies and you want an estimate on getting it working again and refusing the mechanic to look under the hood. Average cost of an xray is $25 ....isn't it worth having that to avoid permanent complications?

Dentists would not suggest tooth extraction unless it is necessary. They can't decide what to do without x-ray taken. There is very minimum radiation for the new digital x-ray nowadays. Don't worry about to have x-ray to make sure if you can save the tooth.

The dentist can not and will not extract or treat a tooth legally without an x-ray. He would open himself up to a law suit and would not know if there would be problems with an extraction due to the shape of the roots.

Because x rays can show cavities that you can't see... Just because you know you have that one, doesn't mean you don't have more than you don't know about.
