What could be causing my tooth ache?!

Question: What could be causing my tooth ache?
I have had a dull but noticeable toothache for about a week now. It isn't too painful but it is enough to notice. Could it be an infection? It is a tooth that was filled a couple years ago that seems to still be in good shape (it has a couple minor chips in it) but it always has been very sensitive to cold. It only takes a few seconds of drinking cold water before there is a sharp pain in the tooth. I can't chew food on the side on my that has the tooth because it is sensitive to pressure. I had a filling before in the same tooth but another cavity formed in the tooth so I had to get another filling.

Answers:

It could be one of many things. You may have some decay that have gotten to the nerves. If that's the case, you may need a root canal. It's possible that the tooth is cracked, which will cause pain. The root could be fractured, which would also cause pain and in both cases the tooth may need to be extracted. It could also be an abcess, which can be treated with antibiotics. In any case, pain is a sympton that something is wrong and should not be ignored. If you go too long, a simple problem could turn into a big one and you could lose your tooth. Good luck and go see your dentist!
