What did you do after getting your wisdom teeth out? (detail please)?!

Question: What did you do after getting your wisdom teeth out? (detail please)?
My dentist didn't give me any instructions after pulling out my wisdom teeth. The only thing he told me was not to spit because it causes more bleeding, and he only told me this after I came back for more gauze. I kept the gauze on for an hour before spitting it out. Now I don't have any more left. My dentist didn't give me extra. When I got home, I used water to swish out all the blood for about 5 min, then I ate some hot soup and rinsed my mouth with warm salt water after that. But now I'm hearing things about not spitting or it will affect the blood clot and I can possibly get a dry socket. My dentist told me not to spit but never mentioned anything about a blood clot or dry socket. How else do you get the blood out because it was giving me extremely horrible breath and I didn't want to eat with all the blood in my mouth. When I was rinsing out the blood, the blood was pretty thick but I didn't see any chunks of blood.

To be on the safe side, I'd wait longer than 48 hours to do any spitting, swishing of liquids, rinsing, or sucking thru a straw. Maybe wait about 3 days. I cannot believe that you didn't get instructions from your dentist to not rinse. Even in the first 24 hours, you aren't supposed to eat anything hot. Unfortunately, you've already rinsed out your mouth so it's possible you may have already compromised the forming blood clot and get a dry socket You will know that you have a dry socket when after 4-5 days, the pain gets worse and not even the pain killers you got will take away the pain. If this happens, call your dentist right away and get in to see him. He will put medicine-soaked gauze into the area where you have the dry socket and it will stay there for a few days, then you'll have to go back for the dentist to examine it and see if you need more treatment. It takes about a week for the socket to go away. During this time, you still do not suck thru a straw, swish, rinse, etc. A dry socket is when the blood clot is dislodged and it leaves the site of your extraction bare, exposing the bone & nerves - that's why it hurts like crazy. After a week of treatment, a thin layer of gum tissue grows over the area, thus healing the area and taking away the pain. Good luck and just take care not to rinse, swish, etc. for the next few days.

Stop Spitting,Dry Socket hurts worse then having a Child Trust Me!,

it does give you bad breath, but when I had mine out, I was told just to leave it. Spitting does cause dry sockets. I would wait atleast 48 hours to make sure the bleeding has stopped before you spit. Also make sure you do not suck through a straw or anything either. You can buy more gauze at any grocery store or pharmacy. You want to keep the gauze in there till the bleeding stops because it keeps pressure on the wound, and all keeps the blood on the gauze so your not swallowing it and constantly tasting it.
