Each case is different. Only your orthodontist can give you an estimate.
Ask your Dentist and they will probably say it is hard to tell because some peoples teeth are more set in place and move more slowly than other peoples. Too bad you didn't have the orthodontia when you were 12 or 13 when the jaw was still growing and the teeth could move more easily. If you have only a mild or minor overbite I don't expect you would even bother with braces unless it really forces your mouth out of shape.
Mild: one year
Moderate: one to two years
Severe: 3 years
After that, you wear a retainer for at least a year during sleepytime.
Braces hurt at first, but you quickly get used to them. My l7 yr. old son had them from l5 to l7 and now wears a retainer in bed. His teeth are PERFECTAMUNDO. But, after $4,000, they should be.
