You should go to a doctor, or at least call one. This forum is not for serious medical issues, use common sense, go to a doctor. He's probably got an infection, swelling is indicative of that. Bleeding from the gums could be gum disease, gingivitis, ugh...SEE A DOCTOR!!

It seems that your nephew is suffering from to totally different oral problems.

First, the bleeding gums have absolutely nothing to do with the cold sores. Secondly, if the cold sores are on the outside of his mouth, then that's herpes and I'll leave a link to a site that has more info on how to treat cold sores.

There's a good to chance your nephew is under a lot of stress. That's usually when you experience a bad outbreak from herpes.

Now... to stop those gums from bleeding you have two options: go to the dentist, try some home remedies, or try an all-natural oral medication. Have you tried some of the common home remedies for stopping your gums from bleeding? Such as salt and warm water, hydrogen perioxide and water, or vinegar. I would try these before going to a dentist, because mild gingivitis can be cured at home.
