Orthodontic retainer question?!

Question: Orthodontic retainer question?
I've had braces off for over two years now, and I wore my retainer for longer than they told me to. Eventually, I noticed my teeth were shifting slightly, so I started wearing it again two days ago. Problem is, I seem to remember stepping on it a while back. Everything is intact, but the front wire got slightly bent. I bent it back into position (at least, it's level and even, and seems to fit okay). In addition, one side of my mouth is KILLING me. The little metal bar that goes under my teeth is really hurting.

How likely is it that my teeth could misalign with the slightly bent retainer, and what am I supposed to do about that cursed metal bar? I've been taking ibuprofen and tylenol at my recommended intervals, but it hurts like a mother and I want to cry constantly. For two days. Not helpful.

Unfortunately your only option right now is to visit your ortho and I recommend that you stop wearing the retainer the slight shift in your teeth is going to cause your retainer to not fit properly and is more then likely the source of the pain. Sorry I wish I had a better answer for you.
