Your teeth have long roots on them, that are firmly implanted in your jaw bone.

Braces pull on the teeth, forcing the roots to turn, so the teeth straighten over time. Because the teeth are stuck in bone and being pulled on, this causes pain. Over time the pain goes away, meaning the teeth have turned as much as the braces currently allow. That's when you get them tightened, to put more pulling force on the teeth, pulling them around further to straighten them more, and the whole pain thing starts again.

You are quite safe to take 1 gram of paracetamol/acetaminophen for this every 6 hours. If you have any codeine or ibuprofen, you are safe to take these as well.

The braces are actually putting pressure on your teeth into a more positive position. Although your teeth are part of the nervous system, they are NOT considered to be bones. However, there are nerves in the roots of your teeth. Like other nerves in your body, when the nerves in your gums are disrupted by braces, the pressure from the wires pulling against your teeth in its natural position cause some pain. But eventually, the pain will subside.
As for your front teeth going numb, I have no idea; it's probably just more pressure. Same thing with getting them tightened.

The reason braces hurt your teeth is because the braces are tight to very tight to shift your teeth so the match up. By doing this it causes a lot of pressure on the teeth in a very short time probably in about 30 minutes-1 hour it might start hurting. The braces shift your teeth and make some fast changes (well the easily see able changes take a probably a few months to be noticeable but when compared to the changes in the jaw positioning through everyday life without braces the change in jaw positioning is big) in the jaw positioning and along with the pressure to the mouth in a very short time and by not having the pressure applied over a long time causes the mouth to become very soar so much that in the first 2-3 days or at least in the first day eating soft foods is the only foods most likely that do not hurt your teeth. After a few days your mouth most likely will be used to the pressure and you should be fine. Also the reason that your mouth hurts when your wire is tighten is the same reason that I wrote before but it should hurt for a shorter period than when you first got the braces on.

I have had braces put on not even a year ago and I still have them on and will have them for a at least 9 more months and have had my wires tightened at least 4 times plus I have had my rubber bands in for awhile which were painful for a longer period than getting your wires tightened but getting the braces on were the most painful and were painful for the longest time.

They hurt because they are moving your teeth in a way they didn't want to go. That's the reason you have to wear a retainer after because they want to go back to where they were before they were moved with braces. And when they get tightened, they're just moving your teeth even more. The numb thing? Idk mine weren't numb either

because the braces are literally moving your teeth and the roots get moved and that causes soreness. I'm not sure about the numb front teeth. That never happened to me. Take Advil or Aleve BEFORE you go get your braces tightened, it helps ALOT.

Braces hurt because they are ever so slowly moving your teeth around which affects the nerves and muscles around your mouth. Every time you get them tightened they are exerting more force on your teeth.

Just got my braces off after 2 1/2 yrs of ortho work.

Because moving the teeth from their ordinary position causes nerve-disruption.
